If you're considering counseling...

It’s very common to feel unsure about starting therapy. Many people worry that they’ll have to know exactly what to say, explain everything clearly, or be ready to “work hard” right away. In reality, therapy begins much more gently than that.

The compassion, understanding, and acceptance a therapist offers aren’t just to help you feel comfortable talking. They also create space for you to slowly turn toward yourself—to notice what’s been weighing on you, to understand it at your own pace, and to see yourself with more clarity and kindness. Often, that alone can feel like a relief.

Therapists don’t usually push, pressure, or promise quick fixes. Instead, they focus on helping you feel understood. Your experiences are taken seriously—not judged, minimized, or rushed. Therapy doesn’t require certainty or confidence; it works just as well when you feel unsure, tired, or stuck.

If you’re feeling hesitant, that makes sense. Many people worry: I don’t know what to do, I’m not sure I can do this, or I’ve tried before and it didn’t work. It’s also normal to feel vulnerable about talking to a stranger or to fear being seen as “not good enough.” Therapy is designed with these fears in mind. You don’t have to arrive ready or brave or hopeful—you just have to arrive as you are. From there, you and the therapist move forward together, one step at a time.
