About EMDR

EMDR Therapy
A proven, gentle approach to healing trauma and anxiety—without having to relive the past.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people move beyond painful or overwhelming experiences that still affect them today. If you’ve ever felt stuck in anxiety, self-doubt, emotional reactivity, or old patterns that don’t make sense anymore, EMDR may help.
Many clients seek EMDR because talk therapy alone hasn’t fully resolved what they’re struggling with—or because they don’t want to retell their story over and over. EMDR works differently by helping the brain and nervous system process experiences in a way that leads to lasting relief.
How EMDR Works
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or tones) to help the brain reprocess distressing memories and beliefs. This allows memories to lose their emotional charge, so they feel more like something that happened in the past—not something still happening now.
You don’t have to go into graphic detail, and sessions are paced carefully. Your comfort, consent, and sense of safety are always the priority.
What EMDR Can Help With
EMDR is commonly used for trauma and PTSD, but it can also be effective for:
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Negative self-beliefs (e.g., “I’m not good enough,” “I’m unsafe”)
  • Childhood or relational trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Phobias or distressing memories
  • Feeling stuck in patterns you can’t talk your way out of
Is EMDR Right for Me?
Many people worry that EMDR will be intense or overwhelming. In reality, a large part of EMDR involves preparation, grounding, and building stability before addressing difficult experiences. You remain in control throughout the process, and we move at a pace that feels manageable for you.
You don’t need to have a clear memory or a single traumatic event for EMDR to be effective. We can work with emotions, body sensations, or current triggers—even if the past feels unclear.
A Different Way Forward
EMDR doesn’t aim to erase the past—it helps free you from being controlled by it. Clients often report feeling calmer, more confident, and more present in their lives after treatment.
If you’re curious about EMDR and wondering whether it could be a good fit, we can talk it through together and decide next steps at your pace.
